I saw an interesting Facebook reel the other day.
It was Tom Platz.
Talking about how he wanted to become a great bodybuilder by training with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He trained with Arnold 6 days per week.
Twice a day.

*This is Dave Draper training with Arnold since I couldn’t find one with Tom Platz and Arnold training together.
In his words, he wound up getting “small and fat” training with Arnold.
He took three weeks off.
Got depressed that he couldn’t keep up with Arnold.
He decided he needed an entirely different approach.
After taking three weeks off something interesting happened… he was bigger and stronger than before he took this time off.
He realized that he needed more rest.
His new approach and philosophy was this…
“You have to TRAIN hard and REST hard.”
He wound up training 3-4 days per week and he added a ton of muscle mass.

*Tom Platz was known for his insanely massive legs.
If you want massive legs like this, then perhaps you need 3-4 days per week.
Also, I don’t think his leg size is a good thing.
Would look ridiculous in any type of pants (have to live in baggy sweat pants).
If you want leaner legs, 2-3 workouts per week is plenty.
Also, keep in mind Tom Platz and all those bodybuilders were using steroids.
As a natural lifter, 2-3 workouts per week work better than 3-4.
But I do really like his “train hard – rest hard” philosophy.
The resting hard part is key.
This is why we use this setup with Lazy Ripped.
- You train 2 days per week for 2 months
- Alternated with 3 days per week for 1 month
It’s an incredible setup for ongoing muscle gains.
Train hard, rest hard, and get in those steps.
Works like a charm.
