How I Bench 315 For Reps

I only weigh around 175, yet I rep 315 on bench press.

How am I so strong for my body weight?

The key is in my training style, the way I train is called reverse pyramid training.

I do my heavy set FIRST for 4-6 reps.

This is my money set.

This is where strength and muscle come from.

And I hit that set while I’m fresh.

When you train with heavy weight, when you’re fresh, it’s easier to build strength and muscle.

Now I only do that heavy set once because it’s so exhausting.

Then I rest three minutes, drop the weight and go for 6-8 reps. I usually drop the weight by about 10%.

So if I’m lifting 300 pounds I’ll go down to 270.

I’ll rest another three minutes…

I might just do one extra set of 8-10 reps with an even lighter weight.

So if you normally start with a lightweight and then build up to a heavier weight (200 pounds, for instance) you’re actually a lot weaker once you hit that heavy set.

Here’s a better approach…

  • Do a few light warmup sets.
  • Hit 200 pounds when you are fresh.
  • Then 180 for 6-8 reps
  • Then finish off with about 160.

You will gain way more muscle strength that way than just doing reps at the same weight or building up the weight.

This way of training flat-out works.
