Missed the Gym for a Week?

What happens when life gets super busy and you miss the gym for a week.

It depends on how you train.

If you just train for the pump and use a high volume of exercises…

You won’t look good after taking a week off.

With a lot of programs, the body only looks good during or right after training.

This is because the physique isn’t built on a foundation of strength.

Strength training builds more “permanent muscle”.

Here’s what I mean by that…

*Strength training, especially in the 3-5 rep range, builds the actual fibers in a muscle.

This is called “Myofibrillar Hypertrophy”.

Muscle growth can happen from muscle fiber (Myofibrillar) growth or with an increase in fluid within the muscle cells (Sarcoplasmic Hypertrophy).

For maximum muscle growth, you want both.

Sarcoplasmic growth happens with higher reps.

But I prefer to emphasize myofibrillar growth and strength.

This is why movie star uses reverse pyramid training.

We do the heavy important 3-5 rep set first.

Getting stronger in this rep range builds muscle fibers that don’t shrink down after a workout.

So you can take a week off and still look good.

*I haven’t hit the gym for a week in this image but still look chiseled.

The muscle would look a bit fuller if I had trained on my normal schedule.

Besides that, I think I look decent here.

Once you dial in your diet and get stronger in the right lifts with the right rep ranges, you will look good regardless of when you lifted weights last.

My approach doesn’t rely on getting “pumped up” before going to the beach.
