Unhealthy to Skip Breakfast? My Comments…

I recently posted a short clip on TikTok…

“Why I’ve Been Skipping Breakfast For 12 Years”

I always expect some sort of blowback no matter what I post on TiKTok.

Here are some of the comments.

  • “Not true for everyone.”
  • “Missing breakfast slows the metabolism.”
  • “Not the most optimal for muscle growth and retention.”
  • “Mate it’s so unhealthy to skip breakfast.”
  • “I’d pass out if I didn’t eat in the morning.”
  • “You’re not going to get enough protein that way which helps you build muscle etc. and keep your metabolism up. Not recommended.”

I received a lot of positive comments as well but…

I’ll tackle some of these common objections.

Is skipping breakfast unhealthy?

When you fast, a process called “Autophagy” happens.

Your body gets the chance to clean out damaged cells and replace with newer healthier cells.

It’s your body’s way of getting rid of dysfunctional cells.

This has even been tied to cancer prevention.

One of the healthiest things you can do is give your body a break from the constant digesting of food.

It’s the overabundance of food is that is unhealthy.

Does skipping breakfast cause low energy or unbearable hunger?

It might at first.

You see, you train your body when to expect food.

If you eat breakfast at 9:00 AM every day…

You are training your body to expect food at 9:00 AM.

You will need to reset your body’s internal clock a bit.

In my experience, most people can do this in 1-2 weeks.

Then it becomes easy.

“If I’m not eating in the morning where is my energy going to come from?”

You will get your energy from your body fat.

This is literally why we store fat.

You get lean when you access body fat when “food energy” isn’t present.

Fasting is the most direct route to creating the ideal conditions for fat loss (seriously, think logically about it).

It’s F*CKN tough to get lean if you are eating all the time.

At some point, you need a time when your body has a reason to access body fat.

What about muscle loss from fasting…

“Isn’t fasting bad for gaining or maintaining muscle?”

In the past, people trying to gain muscle were told to eat several times per day to maximize protein synthesis.

It was thought that multiple meals would add more muscle than fewer meals.

But something interesting happens when you fast.

Your insulin sensitivity increases and your body begins to get better at nutrient partitioning.

More of the food you eat goes to building muscle.

Less gets stored as body fat.

This is why I recommend this approach in Movie Star Masterclass.

Skipping breakfast allows your body to access body fat during the day…

Once you do eat that large dinner, more of the protein you consume is used for muscle growth.

There’s less waste.

It’s the ultimate Recomp diet (gain muscle while losing fat).

I’ll never go back to any other way of eating.

There’s an optimum way to structure your training around this way of eating.

Small tweaks I’ve mastered over the past 12 years.

I cover it all in Movie Star Masterclass.

There are a lot of misconceptions and old beliefs about eating for muscle in general.

I go over all of it in my latest program.

P.S.

What about getting a slow metabolism from skipping breakfast?

Probably my favorite objection of them all.

My friend Brad Pilon did his Master’s thesis on fasting.

He found that Fasting had the same effects on the body as exercise.

  • Adrenaline levels rise
  • Growth hormones levels increase dramatically
  • Fat gets released from fat cells into the bloodstream
  • Fat gets used for fuel

The adrenaline levels mean metabolism speeds up a bit.

Skipping breakfast accelerates the metabolism and fat burning.

Don’t mess up this fat loss momentum by eating a big breakfast.

Save your meal for the night when the body naturally wants to wind down.

Works like a f’ckn charm.
