What is “Doubling Time”? Why It Matters

I want to talk quickly about doubling time.

It has to do with probiotics.

Doubling time indicates how rapidly the probiotic bacteria population can double in size.

It measures the rate of growth.

Measured in minutes.

For instance, one of the probiotic strains in Kinobody Probiotics is Lactobacillus Paracasei.

It has a doubling time of around 30 minutes.

We include 5 billion CFUs of this strain.

This 5 billion will be 10 billion CFUs 30 minutes later.

It will be 20 billion CFUs 30 minutes after that.

Then 40 billion.

You get the idea.

Here are the doubling times of the 6 probiotic strains we use in Kinobody Probiotics.

  • Bifidobacterium Bifidum: 60-90 minutes
  • Lactobacillus Paracasei: 30-40 minutes
  • Lactobacillus Acidophilus: 30-40 minutes
  • Lactobacillus Rhamnosus: 40-60 minutes
  • Bacillus Coagulans: 45-60 minutes
  • Lactobacillus Reuteri: 30-45 minutes

Lactobacillus strains have fast doubling times of 30-40 minutes.

Bifidobacterium and Bacillus are slower growing, with doubling times of around 60 minutes.

I wanted to include a mix of both.

The faster strains colonize the gut quickly, and the slower strains last longer once they colonize the gut.

A range of doubling times is ideal.

This is just one of the many reasons our probiotics formula is awesome.

Our formula also includes a prebiotic that feeds the probiotic strains.

This helps the supplement colonize your gut with beneficial bacteria.
