Why Settle for “Good Enough”

It drives me nuts that people are satisfied when they reach a point of being better than average.

Good is the enemy of great.

I don’t have that mindset.

I always strive for the best possible outcome.

I recommend this in EVERY area of life.

Make it your “modus operandi” (your default way of approaching things).

Take travel, for instance.

I’ve been looking at visiting the Big Island in Hawaii.

One of the things I want to do is travel to the summit of Mauna Kea to view the stars.

*This is supposedly the best place in the world to stargaze; you are able to see the Milky Way with the naked eye.

If you are staying on the beach in Kona, you drive 2.5 hours from sea level to a 13,000+ foot mountain peak.

What I found after researching was this…

On the way to the summit’s peak is the “Mauna Kea Visitor Center” at 9,200 feet (takes 90 minutes to get here from Kona).

Most people stop at the visitor’s center because it’s still incredible stargazing.

No f*ckn way I would stop here!

It’s good, but I am conditioned to aim for the best.

To reach the Summit, you need to drive another 15 miles.

It is a steep road that requires a 4WD vehicle and takes another hour.

But if I fly all this way…

And drive 90 minutes, I’m going that extra mile (or 15 miles in this case).

Here’s what is so badass about this summit.

Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world (but about 19,700 feet of it is underwater).

I also believe it’s the largest mountain on earth in total volume.

So if I fly for 9-10 hours to Hawaii.

Over 4,500 miles.

Then drive 90 minutes to the visitor’s center.

Why would I NOT drive those extra 15 miles to go from The Visitor’s Center (good)… to the Summit (epic).

I would be so pissed at myself if I had the chance to be at the top of the tallest and largest mountain on the planet and stopped short.

Good enough just doesn’t cut it for me.
