Found a video this week, I think you need to see.
It’s from a 34-year-old GP who personally takes 1.25mg of Tirzepatide every week. He’s lean, healthy, not diabetic.
He’s the first to admit the trials weren’t built for someone like him. The research has always focused on the sick and the obese, not healthy adults looking at the long game.
He takes it anyway, and his case for doing so is worth hearing.

Why I Take Low-Dose Tirzepatide (& Not Retatrutide)
Here’s a quick summary of the main points he covers:
The Benefits Go Way Beyond Fat Loss
Most people think about Tirzepatide as a weight loss tool. The research tells a more interesting story.
- The SELECT Trial [1] enrolled over 17,000 adults with established heart disease and without diabetes on weekly semaglutide. Three years in, major cardiovascular events dropped by 20%. When researchers broke the numbers down by how much weight patients lost, a meaningful portion of that heart benefit existed regardless of fat loss.
- The FLOW Trial [2] showed a 24% reduction in kidney failure outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease. The authors specifically noted the effect appeared unrelated to changes in body weight.
- The Chen Osteoarthritis Study [3] split osteoarthritic mice into two groups: one receiving semaglutide, one on a calorie-controlled diet producing the exact same weight loss. The control group lost the weight but their cartilage kept deteriorating. In the semaglutide group, cartilage was preserved and inflammation dropped. A follow-up pilot in humans showed an average 17% increase in cartilage thickness after 24 weeks.
Additional research also points to potential benefits for liver health, addiction, and cancer progression.
Why Tirzepatide Over Retatrutide
His reasoning on why he passed on Retatrutide is worth hearing too. Retatrutide adds glucagon receptor activation, which cranks up metabolic rate.
His view: for someone focused on holding lean muscle mass, that’s the wrong direction.
It also raises resting heart rate by 3-7 bpm in phase 2 trials, and the cardiovascular risk data is still pending.
What He’s Actually Experienced
Food noise dropped significantly. Cravings for junk food largely disappeared. He has genetically elevated blood pressure, and he’s been able to cut his medication dose in half.
Early side effects like nausea and fatigue were real, but resolved with successive injections. He now reports zero side effects. He maintains muscle mass through resistance training and solid protein intake.
He’s a physician who looked at the research, weighed the tradeoffs, and decided it was worth it.
Now my deep interest in tirzepatide is in the lifestyle benefits. It makes life so enjoyable while getting lean and staying lean.
But these deeper health benefits are very interesting.
